Chapter Eleven: Arrival in a Strange Land

Almost in a dreamlike state, Bobby floated through the new town. His thoughts were slowly returning, he could at least remember his name. Still, he didn’t know how he got here. It wasn't going to be long before the sun would set and he needed a place to sleep. Bobby started circling a very large glass dome.

When he stepped inside he realized it was a park. Bobby noticed some of the foliage looked edible. Reluctantly, he started picking the fruit from the plants. He wasn't convinced the plants were safe to eat, but anything was better than starving to death.

This will do, Bobby thought to himself as he settled himself on a nearby bench. He stared at the chess table until he went to sleep, completing moves in his head.

Bobby hardly got any sleep but felt compelled for his first chess challenge. The only thing standing in his way was the fact that he didn’t know a single sim in this strange land.

He put his last few coins a payphone and called directory assistance. He knew it was far-fetched but he asked if the agent knew anyone in the chess circuit. The agent said she’d send someone to the park today.

She was stunning, way more attractive than any of the sims he had seen back home. Her name was Lily and Bobby wanted to know more about her and this strange town.

He drilled her for questions about the town. He learned that he had arrived at Lunar Lakes. It was a common thing for most of the residents to have arrived via abduction. Lily sat down across from Bobby.

Bobby spent more time studying her than the chess match. Lily had to go to work, so she cut their match short. She promised Bobby she’d return that evening to finish their game.

After Lily left, the payphone started ringing. No one was around, so Bobby picked it up. It was the science lab, wanting to know if he was interested in doing a study. They said that they’d pay well and this sparked Bobby’s Interest, he agreed.

Lily came over as promised and they finished their match. Much to Bobby’s surprise, she stayed with him after the match to talk. She patiently listened as Bobby told his story. He told her about growing up homeless, and about his mom leaving.

After Bobby finished telling his life story, it was late. Lily had to go but before she did she hugged Bobby goodbye.

Bobby awoke up from his nap soaked. The dome wasn’t quite as protective of the elements as previously thought. Bobby stood up and closed his eyes out of frustration.

Just when it couldn’t get any worse…

Smelly and singed Bobby cleaned himself in a puddle and start making his way to the science lab for the study he agreed to do.

After his mishap earlier that day, Bobby looked for a safer place to sleep.

The dome still served as a great place to play chess and get food but it was too noisy for Bobby to nap effectively. After a few hours of walking around, Bobby located the library.

Even though it was also noisy, Bobby felt more secure sleeping here. During the daytime hours, he would solve the unsolvable for a little coin. He would sleep here at night, when the others left.

Bobby continued to challenge as many sims as he could and was quickly moving up the chess circuit ladder.

He and Lily continued to see each other. They were growing closer together.

When he could afford to, Bobby took Lily out. It was late one night after drinks and Bobby was feeling a bit uninhibited.

He eyed Lily and pointed towards the gym. Lily didn’t really know what he was going on about but followed him. Bobby’s intentions became apparent shortly.

Days went by, Bobby read all of the logic books he could and eventually was a master. He continued to climb the ranks of the chess circuit. He wasn’t exactly neglecting his relationship with Lily, but he didn’t call her as often.

He became concerned when she sounded so distant over the phone and didn’t want to go out. Bobby decided to pay Lily a visit. She invited him in. When Bobby hugged her she whispered something into his ear.

"Pregnant?!" Bobby said with astonishment. “Is it… is it mine?” He asked her.

Lily looked hurt. “Of course it is…” She said coldly. Lily explained that she didn't think Bobby wanted anything to do with her. She was already prepared to take care of this child alone. Bobby was determined to prove her wrong.

Bobby worked through the night on solving the unsolvable.

He managed to earn quite a bit of money. The next day, he called Lily to schedule a date. She was a bit hesitant but agreed.

Bobby didn't think she was going to show and almost had given up hope. Lily's taxi finally arrived and Bobby didn't waste any time.

Lily was speechless. After a few moments of letting it soak in, she agreed to marry Bobby.
