Chapter Eight: Overstayed Welcome

Adriane still pursued her career in magic, forced to bring Bobby along with her as she performed. After a lengthy show, Adriane went to check on him. She was startled to see that he had grown up, and immediately felt bad for not remembering his birthday today. Bobby rolled around in the snow and looked up at Adriane.

With no other place to go, Adriane returned to the Keaton’s.

Adriane even manages to potty train Young Bobby.

Even though Justine’s skin condition cleared up, she was still sick with contempt towards Adriane.

Despite their situation, Bobby always had a smile on his face. That smile gave Adriane hope.

She started to perform magic for tips more often,  so that she could afford diapers and formula for Bobby.

One night, after finishing her routine, Adriane noticed Marty coming out of the diner. He walked without stopping and muttered “You need to find somewhere else to go…”

Adriane thought Marty meant for them to get out of the cold, so once again she returned to the Keaton's.

When Adriane arrived, she rang the doorbell. She heard muffled voices inside suddenly stop, so she rang once more. After a few minutes, Adriane understood what Marty meant. Bobby was starting to get cranky, so she left to find shelter.

Adriane found a recently abandoned warehouse. It was warm inside and she found that the power still worked. Setting Bobby down, she went to try to find food. Bobby cried out, he was frustrated and cranky from being up so long. After a few minutes of crying, Bobby fell asleep.

Adriane knew it was risky but she desperately needed money for her and Bobby. She left Bobby at the warehouse while she performed for tips.

After she made a few tips, Adriane rushed back to the warehouse.  She was relieved to find Bobby asleep in the bathroom where she left him. Adriane vowed to never leave Bobby again, not until he's older.

Spring came, Adriane felt she could earn more for her and Bobby if she got regular gigs. She brought Bobby along to her auditions. He managed to keep himself entertained.

After her audition, Adriane set out with Bobby in search of food. She didn't get very far before Bobby struggled to free himself from her grip. She couldn't understand why he was being so squirmy so she set him down for a few minutes.

Right before her eyes, Bobby had grown from a toddler to a child.

Adriane wanted to celebrate with Bobby. "Come on," Adriane said excitedly, "Lets get some food from inside..." She led him into the karaoke bar that they were standing.

Soon after stepping inside the proprietor pointed at Bobby and then pointed to the door. "Teen and up!"

It was their cue to leave for the night.

"Oh please!" Adrian shouted back with sass.

"Mom, let's go..." Bobby said, turning towards the door.

Despite his age, Bobby understood rejection very well.

Bobby started walking down the street.

"No." Said Adriane, motioning to two benches in front of the bar. "This will be fine for the night, it's late and you need all the rest you can get before you go to school tomorrow."

"Mom, I don't think...." Bobby started but Adriane interrupted.

"Nonsense, this was good enough for me. It will be good enough for you too." Adriane stubbornly said.

After much difficulty,Bobby was able to get a little sleep. He was very anxious about sleeping in public.
