Chapter Five: The Arrival

Adriane rushed away from the dumpsters and returned to the park to find some food. Since she’s been pregnant, she’s been unable to perform and has not been able to make any money.

Adriane was starved but then was able to salvage some cold French fries.

She was disgusted by her meal, and decided to take a nap on her park bench. After waking up freezing, Adriane knew it was time to seek out a warmer place for the night.

She strolled by the haunted house in the park and got an idea.

“Are you sure you’re ok with this Cornelia?” Adriane asked after she changed into some more comfortable clothes.

“Oh of course dear, stay as long as you need. You know I adore your shows. I’ll never forget when you called Gunther onto the stage and stuffed him into the box of swords.” Cornelia chuckled “Glad to see those clothes fit you, I didn’t think that they’d serve as any use after I had Mortimer.”

Cornelia quickly added, “You really should have taken a bath before putting them on though.”

“Are you sure you won’t stay longer?” Cornelia asked as Adriane walked out. “I’ll be fine, thanks for everything Cornelia.” Adriane said barely looking back. She would have loved to stay longer but she knew she had errands to run before the baby gets here.

Adriane stood outside of the Keaton home for a very long time before knocking.

To Adriane’s surprise Marty did not answer, it was the woman that Adriane found in Marty’s bed. The woman stepped outside and was visually shaken from Adriane’s smell.

“Yes? Can I help you?” the woman asked Adriane.

“My name is Adriane Vagabond.” Adriane nervously stated “I would like to have a word with you if that’s alright.”

“I’m Justine.” The woman answered. “Just what exactly is this about?”

“May I come in?” Adriane asked meekly, “I think it’s best if we both sit down for this.”

“I don’t exactly know how to start this.” Adriane said, looking straight ahead. Justine looked on in silence.

“Marty and I…”

Before Adriane can continue, Justine stops her. Suddenly it all fell into place for Justine. That night when there was a stench throughout the whole house, the two macaroni bowl sitting out. Marty was acting so strangely and was spouting nonsense about hot dogs in his dreams.  That familiar stench, Justine smelled it now as strongly as it was that night, and now this…this…Vagabond! Here tonight, in her house, pregnant and stammering like an idiot.

“Don’t, I already know about you.” Justine snaps. “You have some nerve coming in here like this. In front of our son none the less. You need to leave, now!”

Adriane felt a relief over her and understood that she had overstayed her welcome. Without another word she bundled up  and made her way outside to find a place to sleep for the night.

Adriane's silent exit only confirmed Justine's suspicions.

It was a full moon tonight, normally this doesn’t faze Adriane but she was feeling particularly vulnerable after her exchange with Justine. Adriane wanted a warmer place than the park for tonight and decided she would break into the consignment shop to sleep. After only a little while, the store owner found Adriane.

At first he was angry, but then noticed she was visibly pregnant and so decided to her sleep. Just to be on the safe side he decided to stay and make sure she didn't try to swipe anything when she woke up.

In the middle of the night, Adriane arose to labor pains. The store owner was shocked.

Adriane was even more shocked to see Justine there. It wasn’t exactly clear why Justine was in the shop. Even more strange was the fact that she brought a zombie with her.

“I can’t drive at night.” the shopkeeper said. “I’ll call for a cab to take you to the hospital.”

After only a short while in the hospital, Adriane immerged with Bobby. Bobby was healthy enough and the doctors said he would be a genius if he could overcome his laziness. Adriane pleaded with the hospital to let her stay until sun rise, but they were short on beds that night.

As she was leaving the hospital she noticed the taxi still parked there. She got in, the driver looked back at her and asked her where she wanted to go. Adriane wanted to go home but she did not know where that was. “Just drive.” Adriane said as she clutched Bobby tightly.
