After a couple more hours of sleep, Adriane went to check on
Bobby. She gently picked him up and whispered “I’m sorry.”
Adriane quietly hummed to Bobby, and put him back in the
Goth’s crib.
When she turned around, she almost felt a warmth inside of her. Is she beginning to bond with Bobby? Can she really change?
Bobby let out a small audible sigh. Adriane barely looked back and a familiar
feeling of irrational contempt slowly came over her. Nothing will change for
her, she will always hate children.
Adriane went downstairs to get away from Bobby. She became deep in thought, almost in a trance state.
She gazed at the beautifully decorated living room.
"Why?" She thought to herself, "Why can't I have nice things?" She felt the same strong urges that she felt that night at the Bunch's house.
She looked to see if anyone was watching. Without much thought, Adriane started stealing the Goth's furniture.
Adriane giggled to herself as she took what she wanted.
She stole the Goth's rug and coffee table. She even managed to steal their Couch. Adriane looked at the barren living room. Immediately a feeling of guilt and embarrassment rushed over her.
She felt like she was better than this. Surely there was still some good left in her, she thought to
herself. She felt so ashamed. Adriane felt like a loser.
That night Adriane slept next to Bobby.
Morning came and Adriane could hear voices from downstairs. She scooped Bobby from the crib, and turned to leave. As she was leaving, she was surprised to see Gunther. She quickly turned back around, too embarrassed to meet his icy stare.
“You need to get out of here.” Gunther said sternly.
Adriane
was forced from the house. She still felt bad for stealing the Goth’s living
room furniture. Adriane left the items by the Goth's trash can when she left. She stopped to mail an apologetic letter.
A
neighborhood sim saw Adriane and waved towards her.
“Hey, is that you Ms.
Vagabond? Adriane Vagabond? This
came in the mail for you a long time ago.” The stranger pressed a letter
into Adriane’s hands and ran back inside to get out of the snow.
It was a check from the Magician’s guild; apparently a few
of the members pooled together some money for Adriane’s pregnancy. Adriane
looked at the check. She still felt like such a loser for ruining her
relationship with the Goths. A tear rolled down her cheek and froze there in place. Adriane quickly scribbled something on the check and stuck
it back into the mail box. She donated the money to charity.
For
a second Adriane felt good about herself. Then she realized that Bobby had been
left in the snow this whole time. She picked Bobby up and decided to try to
find another place for them to stay for the night.
Adriane
made her way through the neighborhood to try to find a familiar face.
No one wanted to let Adriane stay. Word had spread of her kleptomaniac tendencies. House after house, rejection after rejection, Adriane was losing hope.
Out of sheer desperation, Adriane knocked on a stranger’s door. A family had just
moved into this house and Adriane was hopeful that they hadn’t heard of her
reputation.
Much
to her surprise, Marty Keaton opened the door.
Marty looked down at Bobby. No emotion showed from his eyes. He looked back at Adriane.
"Well, are you coming in?"
Justine was disgusted as soon as Adriane stepped through the door. Adriane held back a gasp when she saw her. Not wanting to be rude, she didn't ask why Justine had a sickly blue hue to her skin.
Justine felt bad for Bobby but hated Adriane with every fiber in her body. When she looked at her own son's eyes she felt that no child deserved to live like Bobby.
"Having a nice bonding experience?" Marty quipped. Both Adriane and Justine found the comment inappropriate.
"Can I talk to you in the other room?" Justine asked Marty.
"How long will this last?" Justine asked.
"I don't know..." Marty replied.
"I need answers, Mart, I need them now!" Justine raised her voice.
"Keep it down, Justine!" Marty half yelled and half whispered.
"Don't take that tone with me, Mart. This is all your fault." and with her free hand Justine violently pointed towards the light blue, faded, floral print sofa. "Tonight." Justine left the room without saying anything else.
Adriane felt guilty for causing so much trouble between Justine and Marty. She could hear muffled voices from across the house.
Still, she was thankful to have a place for Bobby to sleep tonight. Which he peacefully did, despite the yelling coming from the Keaton's bedroom.
